How to Prepare for Installation Day

The short answer

Clear a path to the work area, move stored items away from the water heater, sump or cleanout, keep pets secured, and plan for the water (and sometimes the gas) to be off for part of the visit. We'll tell you ahead of time if a permit or inspection is part of the job.

Before we arrive

  • Clear a path from the door to the work area, and a few feet of space around it.
  • Move boxes and stored items away from the water heater, sump pit, cleanout or access panel.
  • Keep pets in another room or outside.
  • Make sure an adult who can approve the work is home to let us in.
  • For outside work, note anything buried in the yard that isn't a utility, like invisible-fence wire or sprinkler lines.

On the day

  • Expect the water to be off for part of the visit. For a gas water heater, the gas to the heater will be off too.
  • We confirm the scope with you before we start.
  • If we find a condition the scope didn't assume, we explain what changed and you approve any added work before it starts.

Permits and inspections

When a job requires a permit, we pull it. We'll tell you if an inspection is part of the job and whether an inspector needs access to the work after we finish.

Water heater installs

If the new heater needs to be registered with the manufacturer, registration is the homeowner's job. Keep the paperwork we leave with you. A standard installation carries one year of labor and workmanship coverage.

Paying for it

Financing through Wisetack is available to qualifying customers through Housecall Pro. Arrange it before the work begins.
