Many different parts make up the drainage system. It pays to be familiar with these parts so you can pinpoint the problem should anything goes wrong with your drains. If you require assistance with repair or drain cleaning in Columbus, OH, DrainMaster has you covered.
The following are the major parts of the drainage system:
Fixture Drains
This is the top of the sink or shower drain. It is equipped with a plug or a stopper and is the open fixture of any drainage system. The water flows from here to the sewer lines. In the area of the system, clogged drain issues are common.
P-Traps
Following the fixture drain, you move on to the P-trap, which is curved in shape. It contains a small amount of water to prevent sewer gases from entering your house. If foul odors emanate from the drains, a dry or damaged P-trap could be the cause. Have a reputable drain cleaning company look into the root cause of the issue.
Cleanout
A cleanout provides an easy way to access your drain lines, especially when dealing with a severe clog. You can usually find it on the side of your house near the bathroom. You might also see it from the ground between the foundation and the street. If your home has a large drainage system, having more than one cleanout is best to make drain snaking easier.
Vent Stack
Also known as the plumbing vent, a vent stack is a pipe that exits through the roof. It helps maintain optimal air pressure in your plumbing system. It allows fresh air into the system, so water can flow freely into the drain pipes while eliminating gas and odors. When it gets blocked, your drains will gurgle, and unpleasant smells will permeate your home. In this case, be sure to call for drain cleaning services immediately.
Always make sure that every component of your drainage system is working properly via routine inspections and maintenance. If you notice anything off with your drains, contact DrainMaster as soon as possible. Schedule an appointment with our team today.
