Signs You Need Plumbing, Drain or Sewer Service
The short answer
Recurring clogs, several slow drains at once, gurgling, sewer smells, water where it shouldn't be, no hot water, a sump pump that runs constantly or not at all, and low water pressure are the common signs. Grouping what you see by system helps narrow down the cause.
Drains and the sewer line
- The same drain clogs again soon after it's cleared.
- Several fixtures are slow at once.
- Gurgling from drains or toilets when water runs elsewhere.
- Water or sewage coming up in a floor drain or tub.
- A sewer smell inside or outside.
Water heater
- No hot water, or hot water that runs out sooner than it used to.
- Water around the base of the tank.
- Rusty or discolored hot water.
- Popping or rumbling sounds from the tank.
Sump pump
- The pump runs constantly, cycles on and off quickly, or doesn't start when the pit fills.
- Water in the basement after rain.
- Unusual noise from the pit.
Water line and supply piping
- Low water pressure throughout the house.
- A soggy spot in the yard along the line.
- A water bill that rises without a reason.
- Discolored water from older galvanized piping.
Gas
If you smell gas, leave the building right away. Don't use light switches, phones or open flames on the way out. Call your gas utility or 911 from outside, then call us once the utility has made the situation safe. Gas line repair, replacement and pressure testing are scoped after that.
